Gary now resides in North Phoenix where he lives with his wife Jane (34 years of marriage.) They have one son, Chris and one daughter, Amy.
I grew up in Pontiac , Michigan were I played in many junior, state and college tournaments. I also caddied at Forest Lake CC and Bloomfield Hills CC. I have a degree in education from the University of Michigan where I captained the team in 1971. I was also elected into the Michigan PubLinx Hall of Fame, winning five state tournaments during my amateur career.I have lived in Arizona for almost 36 years and became a member of the PGA in 1980. In 1984 I qualified and played in the Phoenix Open and the PGA Championship (Shoal Creek CC-Birmingham, Alabama ). I have always been interested playing and in the building and repair of golf equipment. Hall of Fame golf inductee and life time member of the PGA, Bill Farkas, made sure all his assistant pros, including me, (1977) knew how to disassemble old wood clubs and put them back together again. I have worked for the Golf Academy of Arizona the past 12 years were I teach students how to become golf instructors, give regularly scheduled golf instruction in order to better their game, and certify students to build and repair golf equipment. I have been teaching privately at the 500 Club the past 19 years and have had a very nice following. We have changed our name to Arizona Custom Golf Clubs, but have been promoting the game around the country for 33 years Currently, I work as a PGA Instructor for the Golf Academy of Arizona teaching club building and fitting, golf course maintenance, golf history and I teach students how to give golf lessons. I have been certified as a Club Builder for many years, which requires keeping up with new technology. I have made in excess of 2,000 sets of golf clubs the past 19 years and pride myself in properly FITTING every customer prior to assembly. My philosophy is very simple—Golf instruction and the custom fitting of golf equipment, to the individual, (not rack clubs) is a must; if the desire is to improve and become a better ball striker. Good golf swings and inferior golf equipment are like to friends that always argue never accomplishing their goals. One needs to compliment the other!
